FassionCave Launch – VIP Shoe Party

by Vercess

To launch the birth of FassionCave, we decided to host a family and friends event in a form of a Shoe Party. I have never heard of this word myself, in fact I envisioned that it would be a perfect idea to hold a party that includes food, drinks, music and shopping.

We were lucky to find a venue at Oxford Hotel that accomodated 50 guests in a beautiful sunken cellar. The feeling that I  got from this venue is “cave-like” with its stone walls and that feeling of discovery as soon as you go downstairs. It was the perfect venue albeit the weekend band and dim lighting – it gave such a fun and vibrant atmosphere.

Here are some of the photos from the night, with happy faces from the ladies.

We were able to showcase the selection of boots, high heels , ballet flats and wedges from our brands: Perth local designer -VanGoh Shoes and Brazilian Brands- Ramarim, Vizzano, Moleca and Beira Rio.

Red is The Spirit In My Footwear

by Felicia

Red is such a fiery and passionate colour that promises a nice dash of spirit to an outfit. The alluring colour is making its way to my current shoe collection, which comprises the peep toe heels, loafers and ballerina flats.

Because of the royal attention the colour receives, I tend to avoid wearing red footwear, for the fear of committing fashion faux pas. Over time, through observation, I managed to set myself some loose guidelines to follow. I’m sharing these humble tips, hoping that you will find as much joy as I do, by letting the colour bring out the best in your outfits.

Catch the drops of red

If you have beautiful dresses or tops with floral prints, then red footwear is a great option to harmonise the feminine look, with just the right dose of sexiness to it.

Add colour to the colours

If you still haven’t caught on with the colour blocking trend, it’s time to pull out your red shoes and experiment! Personally, I think red is most beautiful with camel. So, if you still have reservations about colour clashing, try wearing red shoes with camel bottom, and a striking coloured top.

The berry sorbet

Ok, pun intended- berry sorbet, in my own vocabulary, refers to a palette of sweet colours in pretty shades of pink, purple and orange. If you are still not entirely convinced on colour-clashing, consider wearing red shoes to add a beautiful punch to the sorbet palette. It’s a no-brainer if you want to look both sweet and sexy.

Photobucket

Red with black

I personally would avoid pairing red with black, largely because, it brings to mind too much of the femme fatale look for my liking. Also, the two colours look harsh together. But I know of fashionistas who love a pop of colour on the sombre and somewhat boring colours.

Photobucket

On the other hand, I don’t mind red footwear on black, as long as the outfit is not exactly solid black. Light doses of black details, or even just a tiny bit of colour gradient on the outfit makes a huge difference for me.

Photobucket

Red with white

Whilst red is not entirely in harmony with solid white outfits (in my opinion), it sure looks a lot better compared to red with solid black outfits. Red shoes tend to add visibility to solid white outfits. A nice way of incorporating red with white is to wear it with something that has white details, such a dress with white stripes, or podka dots. A solid white top with a stronger-coloured bottom may do the trick too.

Have fun letting the red shoes work for you!

Sydney Shoe Fair 2012

by Vercess

Australian Shoe Fair

I have just visited Sydney for the annual Australian Shoe Fair exhibition. This event was on for 3 days (12-14th of Feb 2012) at the Sydney Exhibition Centre. Although the price was quite dear to fly from Perth to Sydney, I thought that this event will be the perfect opportunity for me to see before we launch Fassioncave in the next few months.

Vercess at Sydney Shoe Fair

This is me at the entrance of the expo on the very first day. I also met up with my business partner and co-founder Fredy that flew from Melbourne to Sydney for a day!

I’m very excited as there are hundreds of exhibitors and the expo was also a combination of the Fashion Exposed and Bags and Accesories fair. Entry was only limited to ABN holders and business buyers so I feel lucky to be able to go to my first Shoe fair.

The highlights of the expo for me was going to complimentary seminars that talked about the Trends for 2013, E-commerce tips for online businesses, Effective Business tips and much more.

I was able to meet wonderful people on the industry and possible suppliers of women’s shoes for Fassioncave.

Here’s Fassioncave’s 5 hot list for possible suppliers.

1. VanGoh Shoes – Proud to say they are the only one I met from Western Australia during the expo and they sell customised shoes beautifully designed by Vanessa Goh. They have a store at Subiaco and some in Claremont and in Perth CBD. They have beautiful leather shoes and quite trendy too! My favourites are their unique and comfortable sandals with good craftmanship.

Macanna Shoe

2.Macanna Shoes –  Beautiful Italian shoes created by a Taiwanese designer. Their shoes are so beautifully outrageous and unique. All their shoes are handmade and every little detail speaks of innovation. They have over 70 retail shops in Taiwan, 40 in China and some in Japan, they are exploring the western market and we are hoping to meet up with them when we visit Taiwan next month.

Ramarim Shoes

3. Easy Life Shoes – Their shoes are designed and produced in Brazil. After trying on their high heels, I just fell in love. Their high heels and boots are to die for. It is made in cow leather and the insoles are unimaginably soft, and they mold to your feet. We are looking into stocking some of their shoes! It is very addictive!

California Comfort

4. California Comfort – We met a lovely american couple from Brisbane and Kristy designs the shoes herself. The beauty about California Comfort shoes are the insoles that make it seem like you are walking on cotton. They also have interchangeable upper and you are able to add different shoe blings to the shoes. Talk about total comfort and innovation!

Cocorose London Ballet flats

5. Cocorose London – When practicality meets fashion. Cocorose London ballet flats are foldable and is perfect for a travelling companion. Their shoes are designed by a UK designer and the shoes are so trendy and useful.

I am looking forward for the next Australian Shoe Fair in Melbourne in August! Will keep you posted on our ventures!

Every Pair of Shoes Tell A Story…

by Felicia

Like most other typical working women in their late twenties, I love dressing up for both work and play. I can vividly recall the excitement of receiving my first few pay checks from a real full-time profession. They represent my key to real freedom and independence. As shallow as I may sound, much of the thrill came from the ability to realise the wardrobe of abundance!

But of course, as I grew from a fresh college graduate to a seasoned working adult, my style and shopping habits changed. From a fashion junkie, I gradually became a selective shopper. Over the years, I learnt to appreciate my wardrobe pieces, as if they were pieces of art- if I may them, wearable art!

Since I am still in reminiscence of 2011 (you can’t blame me, as it was a really good year for me), I am sharing some of my favourite shoes acquired from last year, and a couple from the years prior.

Leading the show are my trusty Annapelle black ballerina flats. They are worn heavily for work and travelling. These flats have all the boxes checked for chic, comfort and versatility. I commute to work on the train, and the office is a good 10-15 minutes walk from the station. So, they are perfect accompaniment for my walks to and fro work, during the winter months. Along the way, I get to check out new displays at the boutiques, sniff out new cafes, and people-watch, making this part of my journey very enjoyable!

Next on the list, are my Nine West black satin heels with golden trims. These dressy heels have always impressed both my female and male friends. I have recently worn them to a 70s disco themed party, and they were perfect with my outfit!

These Bally heels are another hit on my list, not only because of its versatility, but also because of the quality in its build. I scored them at the sale, on my first ever homage to King Street. It is a scaled-down equivalent of Paris’ Champ Elysse, or London’s Oxford street, or Melbourne’s elegant Collins Street, in Perth!

Mid Heels

Mid Heels

Two other designer shoes that I wear pretty often are mid-heels from Salvatore Ferragamo and Burberry.

While some may feel that Ferragamo shoes to be pretty boring to look at, I always find myself looking forward to the the new colours released every season. I adore the cute signature bows and the solid colours make it easy to incorporate into my outfits.

Burberry High Heels

Burberry High Heels

It was difficult to resist a pair of Burberry shoes endowed in the house’s signature checked prints. Especially when they were the last pair left, coincidentally in my size! Like the Annapelle flats, these shoes found favour in my travelling wardrobe very quickly with its neutral colours.

As you can see, I am very much into understatement and practicality. Although I adore simplicity most of the time, I would like to  experiment with bold and fashion-forward style. Most importantly, I am not brand-conscious, but rather, quality/ style conscious. Instead of keeping 50 pairs of shoes in my cabinet (and probably with a couple others forgotten or neglected with time), I have chosen to keep just a few pairs of trusty staples that are easy to work with my outfits. This ensures that I get more mileage from each pair of shoes, stretching my spending beyond what appears to be frivolous at first glance!

So, I’m certain that all of us have got our favourite shoes. How would you display your shoes, to give them a well-deserved spot in your home? In my next post, I will be sharing some interesting ideas that I have come across. Stay tuned!

I came. I saw. I conquered. 2012 Shoe Trend Report

by Vercess

I have  recently been scouting the shoe shops around Perth, sort of window shopping or lets just say doing some “Market Research”, and have found four commonalities with regards to the shoe trends for 2012.

Here’s the hot list for the 2012 Shoe Trend

1. Sky high Platforms and Wedges

Bring back the 70′s! The wedges that I saw and tried on were sky high, averaging 6 inches high.

This summer, worldwide designers have stepped things up a notch or two by introducing ultra-high styles. I am talking about styles with more than a five inch heel and nearly another inch of platform, bringing back the six inch shoe style.

These are the styles that can make your legs look leaner and longer, but when you go above 2.5-3 inches of heel height you can run into some problems… serious problems.

As I tried them on, I felt like a 6 footer, but other than that I also felt semi-legless.

Going too high if you are not used to it can be a risk in twisting your ankle and spraining it.

If you are going to wear this kind of shoe they are best worn when you do not need to do much walking, or even standing for that matter.

2. Going Gaga over high heels

Many of the shoes designers that have unveiled for spring/summer 2012 are highly stylish. Several styles are walking a fine line between shoe and an artwork.

These must be a big influence of Lady Gaga and her tremendous obsession with new and bizarre things.

I have noticed that most of the shoes have interesting cut out and wrap around effects, which make previous seasons gladiator styles look a little, well.. plain.

Styles with rows of beads or sequins around the ankles, styles with sheer sections and styles decorated with multiple buckles, studs or Swarovski crystals are in this year’s trend.

3. Colour me Happy

I have noticed colours and lots of it!  Long gone are the days of shoes with just one colour. The colour block trend which utilizes different contrasting colour sections within the one design is still going strong for 2012.

Frequently bright colors are being used in different sections of the shoe.

For example, a shoe will have a yellow heel, a turquoise toe section, and a purple side.

There are also lots of two tone styles and different variations.

These colours make me smile!

4. Ballet Flats and dancing shoes

Ballet flats is still on trend this year.

The ballerina flat remains one of the shoe fashions that defies time, and is a staple in most women’s wardrobes. This season the ballerina flats you will see will be embellished with ropes, feathers, ruffles and gems.

The materials used are a bit more out there, as I have noticed faux fur and stingray leather have been used more commonly now.

These are the shoes that will stop the world in its tracks for 2012. Will keep you posted for the next season’s trend!

8 Shoes Every Woman Should Own

by Vercess

Have you suffered from lack of wardrobe space and still not able to find shoes to wear? Do you find that you keep wearing the same shoes over and over again? And some shoes that you have bought you have only worn once and forgotten about it? This is exactly my dilemma.

After careful analysis I realized that every women should have 8 basic shoe types. Categorizing your shoes will show you which type you are lacking and which ones you have too much of.

Here’s my list:

1. The Work-worthy Heels
Black pumps are always classy and is a work shoe staple. The most important thing about work shoes is comfort. You need to invest in these shoes as you will wear them for the whole day. If you are an office girl like me, you can invest in a few different neutral colors too. I have red, nude, white , purple and patterned pumps. I like to keep in demure but elegant.

2. The Party Shoe
These heels can be strappy sandals for a day out or can be colourful and flirty for a night out in town. Party shoes can be as loud with animal prints, block colours, jewel embellishments. There are no rules. Dress up according to your style!

3. The Ballet Flats
These ballets flats are the most comfortable of all shoes, but it doesn’t mean it is boring. There are a lot of beautiful ballet flats in different materials such as jelly, suede and leather. The ballet flats are your best friend for a day with lots of walking.

4. The Sport Shoe/Gym shoe
Invest in good sport shoes or exercise shoes. These shoes protect your feet from getting blisters when doing strenous exercise. Make sure you get a good fit that will allow for best movement.

5. The Casual Thong
Who can go wrong with a thong? Haviannas are a popular kind but there are lots more slippers that can be worn outdoors or at the beach. Bright colours bring out the fun in you.

6. The Sexy Boots

Whether ankle high, cowboy type of knee high boots, boots are essential shoes for autumn and winter seasons. They offer the most protection and can be ultra feminine when worn with the right outfit.

7. The Gladiator
These sandals have become popular as they are edgy and cool. Gladiators can be worn with heels for a night out or flats for casual wear. They add an oomph to your look!

8. Funky Wedges

It is the cross between high heels and flats but with extra support for your calves. Wedges or espadrilles boosts height but also elongate the leg.

After categorizing my shoes and seeing which type I need more of, I now have a logical reason to go for more shopping!
